Reports claiming 5FM DJ Euphonik assaulted his media personality ex-girlfriend, Bonang Matheba, last week, went largely unnoticed in the press. But we can now reveal that one of 5FM’s top-rated DJ’s has handed himself over to the police, following three criminal charges that have been laid against him by Matheba.
Born Themba Nkosi, DJ Euphonik posted bail of R3 000 after presenting himself to the police at Bramley police station yesterday afternoon, in the company of his lawyer.
Euphonik is facing three charges: assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, domestic violence, and malicious damage to property.
Reports on Sunday suggested:
Matheba and Euphonik had an argument at his home in Westdene, which resulted in her storming out of his premises and returning to her apartment in Hyde Park. Euphonik is said to have followed her to her place, which was where the alleged assault took place. Matheba was allegedly rescued by neighbours who heard her screaming.
At the time, Matheba’s lawyer, Bongani Khoza, said:
We confirm that Matheba indeed approached a court and made an application. The matter is pending before a court of law and is thus sub judice.
Police spokesman, Tshisikhawe Ndou, said yesterday:
He was not arrested as such for he handed himself over to the police in the presence of his lawyer. He was then taken to the prosecutor that handles such matters and was released on bail of R3 000 with instruction to appear in court tomorrow.
Following the reports on Sunday, Euphonik issued his own statement, saying that he condemned abuse against women:
I was shocked to see the allegations of assault levelled against me in the tabloids. Those allegations are not true and I am seeking legal advice to clear my name. I will take the matter to court if necessary. Women abuse is a serious crime and I condemn it in the strongest possible terms.
