Parsons was profiled by the New York Times for his upcoming revival of Harvey on Broadway.
Jim Parson, the actor who plays Sheldon on hit U.S. comedy The Big Bang Theory, was outed yesterday in a profile of the actor produced by the New York Times as he prepares to lead a revival of 1944 comedy Harvey on Broadway.
Towards the end of the profile, a line reads:
Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship.
There has been speculation in the media regarding Parson’s private life before, particularly as he and his partner are regular high profile supporters of the theatre scene in New York City. This is the first time he has allowed any definitive statement regarding his sexuality be made public.
Other than his ongoing, two-time Emmy award-winning role as Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, Parsons also returned to Broadway twice in the past two years- last year he appeared in the revival of Larry Kramer’s haunting HIV-AIDS drama, The Normal Heart, and this year he’s playing Elmer O’Dowd in Harvey.
Playing Sheldon has earned Parsons two Emmy awards, a Television Critics Award and a Golden Globe. After Season 4 of The Big Bang Theory, the whole cast were secured by broadcaster CBS for a further three seasons of the show, such is its popularity among viewers. Parsons is often praised for his outstanding physical acting, both on television and in theatre.
After his run in Harvey, Parsons will return to Los Angeles to begin work on Season 6 of The Big Bang Theory in August.
Parsons is best known for his role as inscrutable geek Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory
