J Doms Depp hits up the cover of the US GQ
Johnny Depp Gets His Kit Off For GQ – Following closely in my footsteps and getting at least some of his kit off, Johnny Depp graces the cover of the latest issue of GQ Magazine in the US. The February issue features our boy shirtless, which I thought the laydezz out there would enjoy! You like it Depp, don’t you? [dailystab]
The Voice Of Rugby, Bill McLaren Dies – Bill McLaren, one of the last of sport’s great tribe of apostles, died yesterday. McLaren was the voice of rugby, just as Dan Maskell was the voice of tennis, Peter O’Sullevan of racing, John Arlott of cricket, Murray Walker of motor racing, Harry Carpenter of boxing, David Coleman of athletics. Most have left us, some have just retired. [timesuk / scotlandvwales1971 / highlights ]
Kraft (US) Gets Cadbury (UK) For $19.6 Billion – Kraft Foods sealed a friendly deal to buy British candy maker Cadbury for about $19.6 billion (11.9 billion pounds) after frantic last-minute talks broke an impasse over price. The deal would create the world’s biggest confectioner, and analysts see little likelihood of a counterbid. It also marks the largest European food and beverage deal on record. [reuters]
Third Force At Play As Dennis Hopper Divorces Wife On Death Bed – We featured a similar headline a few days ago, to do with our boy divorcing his wife, just as he is about to pass away. But there is more to this bizarre behaviour. It looks like his little bitch daughter from a previous marriage is very much involved and will do anything to get the step-mother out of the substantial will. [socialitelife]
Fashion At The Golden Globes – The laydezz out there may just want to check out the celebs and their outfits on parade at Sunday’s Golden Globes. And that’s fair enough – it’s what you do. That’s why I managed to outsource a fantastic webpage which highlights the various outfits worn by celebrities at the event. One-shouldered gowns were all the rage this year! [dailybeast]
The “SarcMark” Gives Us Punctuation To Convey Sarcasm – There’s a new kind of punctuation in town and it wants sarcasm for its own. Launched last week by Washington, Mich.-based Sarcasm, Inc., the SarcMark wants to be the official symbol for sarcasm in electronic communication. I like the name, SARCMARK – it reminds me of the Afrikaans expression, “Dit maak nie saak nie!” [abcnews]
E-TV Slapped With Subpoenas – I turned on the 24-hour eTV news last week for the first time in months as I was trying to find out more about those car guards and the Audi R8. What I found was a feature on criminals (with their faces hidden) who were being interviewed about targeting visitors during the world cup. Guess what happened next? Yup, the cops want those names and the journo’s won’t give them. Oh, and their main source committed suicide. [mail&guardian]
Teenage Student Stabbed To Death Walking Home In UK – A teenage A-level student, Asha Muneer, was stabbed to death by a suspected robber as she walked home along a canal footpath. The 18 year-old was discovered by a passer-by lying face down on a path beside the River Kennet in Reading, Berks. A post-mortem found she died from multiple stab wounds. But I thought that only happened in South Africa? [telegraph]
2,200 Year Old Temple UnEarthed In Egypt, Revealing “Cat God” – A 2,200-year-old temple that may have been dedicated to the ancient Egyptian cat god Bastet has been unearthed in Alexandria. The ruins were discovered by archaeologists in the port city founded by Alexander the Great around 331BC. Alexandria was the seat of the Greek-speaking Ptolemaic dynasty, which ruled Egypt for 300 years until the suicide of Queen Cleopatra. She was a babe. [guardian]

What To Expect From Apple’s “Latest Creation” Event Scheduled For 27 January – We’re a little over a week away from Apple’s “Latest Creation” event in San Francisco and several “sources” are “leaking” information left and right. And then there are the subtle hints at what the announcement could entail, but before we get to those little observations, let’s have a quick rundown of what’s been hinted at so far. [techland]
