While the rest of Cape Town took part in yesterday’s Argus, a group of hipsters understandably felt that this event was way too commercial. So 100 of them shed their clothes instead, and cycled naked around the Prestwich Memorial.
They were also raising awareness surrounding the fact that the city has one of the highest carbon emissions per capita ratings in the world. According to Zoe Duby, the organiser of the Cape Town leg of the World Naked Bike Ride, this is “really embarrassing.”
Duby was interviewed by the Mail & Guardian painted from head to toe in luminous body paint, with a cycling helmet to which was attached pink stockings filled with balloons.
The naked bike ride will hopefully raise awareness about carbon emissions, as well as encouraging the City of Cape Town to create more safe cycle routes.
