For the first time ever, you’ll be able to watch every single Olympic event live, for free, without having to pirate it through some dodgy online stream. In fact, it’s actually a clever marketing ploy on the behalf of NBC, but still, it’s better than nothing.
YouTube has been live-streaming sport events for quite a while now, and they’ve also been teaming up with brands for “sponsorship” of these events too.
Trends are pointing to the fact that there is a massive market out there for watching events, especially sporting events, online.
And that’s exactly what YouTube and NBC have teamed up to do, but only this time, it’s quite a big event that they’ll be streaming.
NBC live-streamed the Super Bowl earlier this year, and it must have proved a resounding success for them, because they’ve gone out on a limb by being the first broadcaster to ever broadcast the entire Olympics, for free.
NBC isn’t stopping there. No. There will also be exclusive online content like:
Replays of Web-exclusive events, all television broadcasts, interviews with the athletes and exclusive daily segments about London 2012.
The catch?
You won’t actually be watching it on YouTube. Instead, you’ll be watching it over at NBCOlympics.com. But it’s still “courtesy” of YouTube’s platform.
They’ve promised to deliver 3 000 hours of coverage and all of the live-streams will also be available on mobile devices.
“They have just entered the realm of video game times.”
Adverts? Probably.
