See, it turns out that Google doesn’t actually know everything about your online browsing habits. But boy, they’d sure like to! Which is why they’re rolling out two services that records users’ online activities in full, in return for Amazon gift cards or – in the sightly more intense version – hard cash.
This is the next step in Google’s transformation into that creepy guy who wants to know ALL about you.
The “lightweight” option is just a Chrome extension that records which sites you visit, and how you use them – in exchange for a $5 Amazon gift card, and another card every three months. Which obviously isn’t holla-dolla-bill, but it’s an incentive that some people might go for.
The hardcore version isn’t open to the entire public, but is aimed at users of Knowledge Networks – a site that composes surveys for companies that want to understand their users better. Some users have received offers to be part of the first 2500 households in the study, which would pay $100 up front and $20 per month.
Creepy, Google.
