Right folks, we’re just over a month into 2012, and chances are those New Years eat better/get fit/go to gym/less carbs/do the Argus resolutions are beginning to peel off the inner wall of motivation like faded post-it notes under too much sun.
Well, just in time to revive those heartfelt promises to ourselves, comes some extra February oomph courtesy of an unfortunate Pretoria man who was so obese at time of death last week, that it might not be possible to bury him.
Chris Labuschagne died last Friday from unknown complications at Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria- and weighed around 550kg when he passed. His corpse is too large for the mortuary facilities at Kalafong, and so it was moved to a cold storage facility (basically an industrial fridge) at George Mukhari Hospital where it has remained.
Now there’s some doubt as to what will happen to Chris’ corpse, as his family will need both a double coffin and a double grave plot to bury him, as well as a crane to even lift him out of his current resting place. They claim this far exceeds what they can afford to pay. It’s also unknown if there is a cremation facility that can accomodate such a load. They’ve appealed to the State and the public to help defray the costs of the plus size burial.
Welcome back, New Years resolutions, I’ll never let you wander off again.
