Legendary musician Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, better known as Sting, performed the first of his two shows at the GrandWest Arena last night.

Sting’s arrival in Cape Town has been very quiet, so if you missed it – or have tickets for tonight’s show (Wednesday, 26 March) – here’s a sneak peek at what to expect, thanks to the show-hopping Lance Peterson.

The former front man and bassist of The Police has since had a long and successful solo career and enthralled fans with his smooth blends of pop, rock, jazz, reggae, world music, and even classical elements.

The 17-time Grammy Award-winning artist is joined on stage by virtuoso guitarist and long-time collaborator Dominic Miller, as well as dynamic drummer Chris Maas, who previously worked with Mumford & Sons and Maggie Rogers.

His South African visit is part of the “Sting 3.0″ tour, presented by Cherrytree Music Company and Big Concerts, powered by Hot 102.7 FM and in association with KFM 94.5.

There are still tickets available for tonight’s show if you feel like treating your partner – trust us, nobody does a date night soundtrack better than Sting!

Sting has sold a combined total of more than 100 million records as a solo artist and as a member of the Police. He has received three Brit Awards, including Best British Male Artist in 1994 and Outstanding Contribution to Music in 2002; a Golden Globe; an Emmy; and four Academy Award nominations.

So ja, we’d say it’s worth dealing with the post-show traffic to see this legend.
