Sometimes the apple falls from the tree, and then just keeps falling.
The grandson of the revered Nelson Mandela has been arrested at the former home of the president alongside four other suspected hijackers.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said officers received information from a vehicle tracking company about the location of a white Toyota Corolla that was hijacked along Louis Botha Avenue in Oaklands.
“Acting on this information, officers proceeded to a residence in Houghton, previously owned by former president Nelson Mandela. Upon entering the property, officers recovered the hijacked vehicle [parked there] and apprehended [the] five individuals,” he said.
The police also recovered an unlicensed firearm at the home, which reportedly was being rented by one of the suspects.
“All five suspects have been arrested and will be detained at Norwood Saps [South African Police Service]. They will be facing charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm.”
