Regular visitor to South Africa, Oprah Winfrey, is in the country again. She’s here to attend the graduation of the first batch of girls to matriculate from her school, the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. The former talk show host will also try to squeeze in a catch up with her buddy Madiba, if he’s up to it.
It will no doubt be gratifying for Ms Winfrey to see 2011’s Grade 12 class receiving their matric certificates this weekend – a tangible result of the millions of dollars she spent on establishing the school for disadvantaged girls near Johannesburg five years ago.
It’s been reported that the 2011 matriculating group from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls attained a 100% pass rate. Nicely done.
On a meeting with 93-year-old Nelson Mandela, Winfrey said, ‘I try to see Madiba each time I come. If he is able to see me, yes, I will (see him)’.
