Ann Altman, the sister of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has filed a lawsuit alleging that he abused her on a daily basis from 1997 until 2006.
The lawsuit, which was filed on January 6 in a US District Court in the Eastern District of Missouri, says that the abuse began when she was three and Altman was twelve.
The OpenAI boss denied the allegations in a joint statement with his mother and two brothers on X, stating “All of these claims are utterly untrue. This situation causes immense pain to our entire family.”
“Caring for a family member who faces mental health challenges is incredibly difficult,” the statement added.

Ann Altman stated in filing that the abuse occurred over a long period of time and included rape. The lawsuit further stated that the last alleged abuse occurred when Sam Altman was an adult but she was still a juvenile. The suit also requested a jury trial and damages of $75,000 (R1.4 million).
This is not the first time Altman’s sibling has gone public about childhood sexual abuse, having posted similar allegations against family members to X in 2021.
In the post, she claims to “feel strongly that others have also been abused by these perpetrators. I’m seeking people to join me in pursuing legal justice, safety for others in the future, and group healing”.

Ann Altman revealed in another post last year that she had been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, as well as hEDS. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome affects connective tissue, primarily the skin, joints and blood vessel walls and includes symptoms like overly flexible joints that can dislocate, and skin that’s translucent, elastic and bruises easily.
The post went on to say: “I’ve had a very different experience receiving support. I started sex work while houseless and having my dead Dad’s money in my name withheld from me.”
Sam Altman has not made any further statement about the allegations.
