The search for the 66-year-old Cape Town hiker has come to a sad end with the discovery of his body along the Countour Path in the Newlands Forest late yesterday afternoon.
Dhananjaya Naidoo went hiking in the Newlands Forest in Cape Town on Sunday and authorities were alerted when he failed to return home.
Meanwhile, police have confirmed that the body has been recovered.
‘An inquest was registered for further investigation,’ said SAPS spokesperson, Wesley Twigg, ‘A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.’
Cape {town} Etc reported that Naidoo, a retired education official from the Western Cape Education Department, is a respected figure in the education sector. He began his career as a mathematics teacher in Durban before moving to Cape Town, where he held a position at Rylands High School. He later served as the principal of Sophumelela Secondary School and eventually became a circuit manager.
The family has since extended their gratitude to those who volunteered to search the mountain and offered support.
