After approximately a decade away from the spotlight, Cameron Diaz is making a triumphant return, teaming up with longtime collaborator Jamie Foxx in the Netflix spy comedy Back in Action.
The streaming giant that we all know and love just dropped the first trailer for the highly anticipated film, and it’s clear that both Diaz and Foxx are bringing their A-game. These two fan faves are quite literally “back in action”.
The movie follows Diaz and Foxx’s characters as a married-with-children duo who are retired CIA operatives. Back In Action sees the couple thrust back into the world of espionage, with kids and chaos in tow. It’s one thing finding out your mom had a perm in the 80’s, but a whole other kettle of fish when you clock your parents’ kick*ss past.
Diaz, as sharp and fierce as ever, drops a line in the trailer that echoes her real-life return to Hollywood just as much as it does her character’s storyline:
For the first time in a really long time, I felt alive again. I felt like that b*tch again!
Witty one-liners from Foxx and Diaz pepper this rollicking skop, skiet en donder film, and you can tell from the brand new trailer that this one is a ‘must-see’:
Back in Action premieres on Netflix on January 17 and marks Diaz’s first acting role since 2014’s Annie. During her hiatus, the actress kept busy with family and her wellness brand, ‘Avaline’. Now the world’s fave Charlie’s Angel is officially back, and this isn’t her only project on the horizon. Fans can also look forward to her reprising her iconic voice role as Princess Fiona in Shrek 5 and starring in Jonah Hill’s upcoming directorial debut, Outcome.
Diaz is not the only star in the film that has been out of the spotlight for some time; Back in Action faced challenges earlier this year when Foxx was hospitalised in April with a serious, undisclosed medical condition. While Foxx had to take a few months to focus on his health, the talented actor has since made a remarkable recovery, crediting the medical team at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta for helping him return to the stage and screen.
This isn’t the first time Diaz and Foxx have teamed up on screen. The pair previously worked together on Any Given Sunday and Annie, making Back in Action a high-voltage reunion of sorts. Their chemistry in the trailer promises a blend of high-energy action and sharp comedic timing, with a touch of heartfelt family dynamics. Think the original Mr & Mrs Smith, but with even more giggles.
Between Diaz’s much-anticipated comeback and Foxx’s incredible resilience, Back in Action is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most-anticipated releases this year.
Catch Diaz and Foxx Back in Action on 17 January 2025 – from the mind-blowing car-chases and hilarity featured in the trailer, it looks like this will be the perfect flick to catch on the big screen.
