There’s hardly a news site on the planet that hasn’t been discussing what Trump’s overwhelming victory in the recent US elections means for America, and by default, the world.

Opinions seem divided – to put it mildly. The so-called ‘liberal media’ seems to reckon the seventh circle of hell has been opened and all is lost, while on the other side of the newsfeed, commentators are salivating at the return of the ‘swamp-drainer’ who managed to get re-elected without the support of Taylor Swift and George Clooney.

One thing is certain though, Trump is hitting the ground running this time. As Jonathan Pie opined recently, the man has had four years to stew over what he could have done better, and he’ll waste no time affecting his agenda.

So, is America doomed, or is the Trump menace a red (orange) herring the Democrats used to make up for their lack of strong leadership? More and more business leaders seem to be warming to the idea that another Trump era might not be as devastating as Hollywood believes. As one of SA’s top business minds, Rob Hersov reckons he’s happy Trump won, even if only to emphasise that hugs and kisses alone are not enough to run a country.

Hersov shared his insights on the shift towards Trump among business leaders with BizNews Briefing’s Alec Hogg recently and urged South Africans to reflect on economic policies and political alignment in our own country. It’s worth a listen, and before anyone accuses us of being Trumpian, let’s just say that when we look for opinions on these matters, we prefer listening to business minds instead of Beyonce.

While it’s easy to point out the very real dangers of another four years of Trump – and there are many – the aforementioned Jonathan Pie also managed to make a few humorous NSFW points on why the Democrats lost.

In truth, opinions on how and why Trump pulled it off are all but moot. The coifed one is in charge now, for better or worse.
