Martha Stewart’s ex-husband is striking back after her Netflix documentary exposed him as a cheat.
The lifestyle icon, now 83, held nothing back in her new doccie, Martha, recounting the end of her 29-year marriage to publisher Andrew (Andy) Stewart. She claims their relationship crumbled under the weight of his alleged affairs, of which there were numerous, including a betrayal with her former assistant.
But Andy isn’t staying silent. His third wife, Shyla Nelson Stewart, steps forward to reveal his side of the story, setting the stage for a clash of perspectives.
Right off the bat, before the documentary was even available to stream, Andy and Shyla took issue with the “sensationalized” trailer, firing off their frustrations via Facebook. Shyla wrote the lengthy post but signed it on her and her husband’s behalf, per The New York Post.
Calling him “one of the gentlest, most soft-spoken, kind-hearted men” she’s ever known, Shyla gushed over their marriage before blasting the union he shared with Martha.
“Prior to this happy chapter of his life, Andy had some dark ones, including a painful and abusive marriage to Martha (as in, Martha Stewart), which ended almost 40 years ago,” she wrote in their statement dated Oct. 12.
Ah oh, here it goes.
Assuring everyone that Andy has “quietly moved on and forward with his life,” his wife claimed that “Martha continues to publicly relitigate the marriage, including comments in a sensational trailer for an upcoming documentary on Netflix.”
Shyla continued, “The juxtaposition of Andy’s early life with the joy-filled, purpose-led, loving marriage we live today is striking. Every day, we openly express our gratitude for our love and for our life together.”
Andy and his wife wrapped up their response with a parting message, wishing everyone—including Martha—”the experience of loving and being loved deeply and fully, and the peace that comes with such a love.”
Ha! What a strike. The only thing they are missing, perhaps, is more about that ‘dark’ past of Andy’s, where he could very well have hurt the ones he loved (Martha).
Martha, for her part, said they “haven’t spoken” since their divorce in 1990, even though she and Andy share one daughter Alexis Stewart, who is now 59.
In her doccie, however, she didn’t hold back in describing the alleged infidelities that rocked her marriage to Andy, even claiming he cheated with her assistant, Robyn Fairclough, who was living on their Connecticut property at the time.
“I don’t know how many different girlfriends he had … but I think there were quite a few … If you’re married and you think you’re happily married, and your husband starts to cheat on you, he’s a piece of s–t. Look at him as a piece of s–t and get out of it, get out of that marriage,” Martha warned viewers.
Andy went on to marry Robyn in May 1993. He wed Shyla in 2016.
The OG influencer then admitted to having an affair of her own:
“I had a very brief affair with a very attractive Irishman, and it was just nothing,” she stated. “It was nothing. In terms of … I would have never broken up a marriage for it. It was nothing.”
Extramarital affairs weren’t the only bombshells Martha dropped in her documentary. Reflecting on her trial and prison time after the insider trading scandal, the homemaker-turned-billionaire unleashed on a former New York Post columnist who reported on her legal woes.
“She had written horrible things during the entire trial. But she is dead now, thank goodness,” Martha said.
Yikes, Martha, showing your true colours much?
In fact, that columnist is very much alive and firing back with a comeback article titled, “Hey Martha Stewart, you gloated about the death of a Post columnist — but I’m alive, bitch!”
When Martha caught wind of the headline, she couldn’t resist a playful jab, calling the New York Post “my favorite newspaper.”
In March 2004, Martha was convicted on charges including conspiracy and obstruction of justice, resulting in a five-month prison sentence and two years of probation—causing her brand to plummet.
But when Martha was released in March 2005, she rose from the ashes, rebuilding both her reputation and career. Remarkably, she never remarried.
