Wayne Enterprises has collaborated with Action Vehicle Engineering to produce a limited run of ten Batmobile Tumblers, each an identical duplicate of the one featured in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.
The Warner Bros.-approved collaboration, which is drivable (but not street legal) and built entirely to size, would fulfil many comic book-related boyhood dreams and comes with a 6.2-litre V-8 engine that produces 525 hp.
Batman’s vehicle of choice – officially dubbed the Batmobile in Detective Comics #48, published in February 1941 – has become a big part of Batman lore.
Sold by invitation only, each Tumbler is expected to take 15 months from deposit to delivery. Every facet of its surface has been carefully studied to match the original whose initial model was cobbled together from various model car, boat and airplane kits.
Though it lacks the bells and whistles of a true Batmobile, the vehicle does include a smokescreen distribution system and imitation gun turrets on the exterior of its Kevlar, carbon fibre, and sheet metal fibreglass shell.Wayne Enterprises, which is sponsored by DC Comics and its parent business Warner Bros., specialises in curating parts of Wayne’s wealthy lifestyle, such as technology, fashion, art, watercraft, and mansions, for visitors to its website and private events. The latter takes place in an unnamed Manhattan home with seven stories of Batman-themed shippable products.
Of course, it won’t be cheap. The Batmobile was conceived by a billionaire, after all, so each of the 10 lucky owners will have to pony up a hefty $3 million to buy their awesome piece of Batman’s iconic arsenal.
Just wait until some reckless YouTuber gets a hold of one of these puppies. Until then, watch Jay Leno test drive the Tumbler:
