Eleanor Brown, a 24-year-old from Morley in the UK, has been sentenced to three years in prison for posting nudes of her father’s former mistress on an escort site in a twisted act of “revenge.”
During her trial, it was revealed that Brown created a fake profile for the woman, which led to the victim’s husband being inundated with calls and messages. Initially denying two counts of disclosing private photographs without consent, Eleanor ultimately pleaded guilty midway through the proceedings.
In a statement read at Leeds Crown Court, the victim expressed she lived in “constant fear” of the photos resurfacing.
The court heard that Eleanor discovered her father’s extramarital affair with the woman during her teenage years, which is when she got a taste for revenge.
In August 2022, Eleanor unleashed a barrage of derogatory and abusive messages about the victim on an online profile promoting her husband’s business. When this failed to elicit the “reaction she wanted,” she escalated her campaign by posting the woman’s photos on an escort site, including her husband’s phone number.
Within just half an hour of the ad going live, the victim’s husband received an avalanche of eight phone calls and 13 text messages, plunging their lives into chaos.
Eleanor also contacted the daughter of the victim and her husband, who had not been aware of the affair and sent her a “lengthy and vindictive” message the sentencing heard.
She told her she would never “allow her to forget” what her mother had done “to my family”.
In a victim impact statement read out on the victim’s behalf, she divulged how she felt “anxious and nauseous” to this day.
“The thought of my pictures being used by a complete stranger sickens me,” she said. “I find it hard to believe a woman would do this to another woman. To say I feel violated is an understatement.”
During the police investigation that followed, it came to light that Eleanor was “egged on” by her sister Sophie, a serving police officer at the time, and their mother, though neither faced charges for their involvement.
Sophie did, however, get hit with gross misconduct at a police hearing in April for “encouraging” her sister’s actions. The misconduct panel decided she would have been fired if she hadn’t already resigned.
In defence of Brown, Harry Crowson noted that while it’s easy to think Eleanor doesn’t deserve any sympathy, her teenage years were really shaken up by the discovery of her father’s affair.
He added: “She needs to stop fighting a battle that isn’t hers. She has, at the age of 24, experienced trauma far outstripping her age.”
But Judge Alexander Menary argued that Brown’s actions had been “vindictive, selfish and vengeful” which had allowed her to “relish the obvious discomfort” the offending had caused.
Sentencing her to consecutive terms of two and one years for each of the charges, Judge Menary told her: “Your lack of remorse is staggering.”
All is fair in love and war, hey.
