A pilot was hurt when a small aeroplane crashed at Durban’s Beachwood Golf Club in Durban North on Thursday afternoon.

Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics said paramedics, together with South African Police Services (SAPS) and Metro Police Search and Rescue arrived at the golf estate and were directed to where the light aircraft had crashed.

He stated that the events leading up to the crash are unknown, but the officials were present and will conduct additional investigations.

“It is believed that the plane had two occupants at the time of the crash. One of the occupants had sustained minor injuries and was stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Hospital for the further care that he required,” Jamieson said.

Last month, IOL reported that three individuals escaped uninjured after a small aeroplane collided with a light pole in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. At around 4 p.m. on September 5, a Piper Lance or Saratoga light aeroplane with a pilot and two passengers made an emergency landing.

According to police, the 75-year-old pilot stated the aircraft was running short on fuel, requiring him to make an emergency landing. Police said a pothole and a speed bump on the road led the aircraft to tilt and smash into a light post.
