Jude Law puts on a dramatic hairline and a moustache to play a harried FBI agent investigating a neo-Nazi group in the ‘80s in the new historical crime thriller The Order.
Nope, you’ve never seen the handsome British two-time Academy Award nominee like this.
It’s Law (hah) against Nicholas Hoult in the historical crime thriller that is based on a true story, directed by Justin Kurzel, with a script by the Oscar-nominated screenwriter Zach Baylin (King Richard).
Though Law’s FBI agent, Terry Husk, is fictionalised, Bob Mathews (Hoult) was the real leader of the neo-Nazi group known as The Order.
Here’s the official logline for the film from Vertical: “Based on a true story, an alarming surge in violent bombings and bank robberies in the Pacific Northwest leads a weathered FBI agent into a deadly cat-and-mouse game with a charismatic domestic terrorist plotting to overthrow the US government.”
Vertical just released the first official trailer for The Order. Watch it below:
The Order reviews praise it as a gripping and intense crime thriller that effectively combines action with a critical examination of extremist ideologies.
As highlighted by the trailer, critics are calling it a “riveting real-life thriller” that is “supremely intelligent” and “will have audiences on the edge of their seats.” They also say the two lead actors “have never been better and more terrifying” and are “backed by a stellar cast.”
During a press conference at the festival, Law said the film is “sadly” relevant to America’s contemporary political landscape. “It felt like a piece of work that needed to be made now,” he said, according to Deadline.
“I think we live at a time now that was reflected in the film, where there is division, and there’s a lot of conversation about the future and about ideologies. The film was about an ideology that’s incredibly dangerous and how it can quickly take seed… I think that’s a timeless thing, not only in America, but in Australia too,” said Kurzel, who is Australian.
The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in August, where it competed for the Golden Lion. It’s currently sitting at an 86% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Order will open in theatres on December 6.
