Cowboys, cowgirls, and saloon girls are all invited to attend the newly refurbished Royal Cape Yacht Club’s annual Opening Cruise in the Regatta Centre this Saturday, 5th October.
The theme for this year is ‘Wild West Saloon’ so everyone is invited to channel their best ‘land pirate’ look, with the best-dressed crew winning free club membership.
The Opening Cruise promises a day filled with maritime pageantry as yachts of all sizes take to the waters of Table Bay for the iconic sail-past in the V&A waterfront, outside the clocktower where you can watch the spectacle of boats passing at 14h00, saluting Commodore Alan Haefele.
The event serves as an opportunity for RCYC members and the Cape Town sailing community to unite in celebration of a new season of competitive racing, cruising, and community engagement.
An address by Alderman James Vos takes place, and Premier Alan Winde follows by setting off ceremonial cannon fire at the Club beforehand.
All eyes will be on the water as the fleet takes to the waterfront, later accompanied by a lively shoreside celebration at RCYC at 14h00, with hony-tonk piano tunes, line dancers, refreshments, and plenty activities for families and friends.
