A 20-year-old US hiker who went missing on Table Mountain this Saturday has been found dead by search and rescue teams on Devil’s Peak.
The woman had been identified as Brook Cheuvront from North Carolina, who was reported missing around noon on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Malcolm Pojie said a search party found the woman’s body at around 14:00.
“The body of the missing hiker was found in an area which is part of Devil’s Peak and retrieved by EMS helicopter,” Pojie said. An inquest case has been opened, and according to News24, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Cheuvront’s father, Steve, confirmed on Facebook that her body had been found after authorities were alerted to her disappearance.
“Please take down all post looking for Brook. She was recovered. We are devastated. God help me and us (sic),” he said.
In a previous post, Steve said he planned to fly to South Africa to help with the search.
“Please please. Let her be found. It will be daylight there in 90 min. Search and rescue. The US ambassador is aware. All resources will be sent. I may be flying over tomorrow (Sunday),” he said.
