North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un ordered 30 top officials to be executed over their alleged failure to prevent massive flooding and landslides in the summer that resulted in the death of some 4,000 people.

An official in the Kim regime has reported that the leader of the hermit country ordered the executions after charging the officials with ‘dereliction of duty’ following the disastrous rains that flooded the nation.

According to the official “20 to 30 cadres in the flood-stricken area were executed at the same time late last month.”

Kim gave the order to “strictly punish” the officials, according to earlier reports from the North Korean Central News Agency, following the devastating flooding that struck the Chagang Province in July and caused the displacement of over 15,000 people in addition to the loss of over 4,000 lives.

Report say that Kim sacked a number of leaders in an emergency meeting amid the flooding calamity, including Kang Bong-hoon, the provincial party committee secretary of Chagang Province since 2019. The identities of the officials who were executed were not disclosed.

Lee Il-gyu, a former North Korean ambassador, told TV Chosun after the meeting with Kim that it was evident the provincial officials were “so anxious that they don’t know when their necks will fall off.”

Kim predicted that Korea would take months to repair the flooded neighbourhoods when he was spotted last month inspecting the devastated regions and interacting with locals.

The leader of North Korea also denounced South Korean accounts of the death toll, disputing claims that hundreds had perished.

Reports of Kim ordering the removal of officials due to a perceived failure have surfaced before and The DPRK is also accused of having assassinated Kim Hyok Chol, its nuclear envoy to the US, in 2019 for not arranging a meeting between Kim and US President Donald Trump.

Korea Times reports that the North Korean leader likes a good execution so much that last year saw the ‘cleansing’ of nearly 100 state officials.

Obviously, none of the issues facing the country is Kim’s fault. In DPRK, heads roll downhill.
