For the first time in 45 years, the iconic house from the 1982 horror film Poltergeist is up for sale, offering potential buyers a slice of horror history at only $1,174,999 (R20 million).
The Simi Valley, CA, residence, which served as the Freeling family house, offers four bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and “absolutely, positively no ghostly antics.”
Its brush with scary movie history also gives it some paranormal appeal, making it this week’s most popular home on Realtor.com.
The 202-square-metre residence includes a large living room with oversized windows, a formal dining room, as well as the infamous kitchen. Still in its original form, the appliances have been updated, but otherwise, it’s still the same white-tiled kitchen where chairs freakishly stacked themselves.

The house includes a family room with a fireplace, a built-in office nook, and a half-bath. The four bedrooms, including the primary suite, are all upstairs. A three-car garage offers plentiful storage and there’s also a pool and a spa.
The advert claims you can “immediately feel a good energy” in the house, but the memory of that tree in the front yard swallowing the Freeling kid still creeps me out. Besides that, the only frightening thing about this house appears to be the decor.
