A possible earthquake was reported near Blouberg around 5:52PM yesterday afternoon with close to 154 logging the event on social media.
Seismic agencies have however not been able to confirm whether it was an earthquake or a ‘seismic-like’ event.
Residents of the area flocked to Facebook to report the ‘quake’, with several saying they felt and heard it, while others pointed to a more man-made reason for the uproar.
The rumble in Blouberg follows a recent earthquake that shook the Diepriver and Milnerton area recently, registering 1.4 on the richer scale.
While one local claimed to be responsible, saying “Nee, mense ek het gepoep“, others quickly pointed to a planned blast at the Portland Quarry close to Blouberg as the likely cause of the quake.The timing of the ‘quake’ fits right into the planned time for blasting at the quarry, so until the exact cause is confirmed, we’re pretty sure this was the origin of the rumble at Blouberg, so there’s nothing to feel here folks.
