Springbok player Faf De Klerk has launched his own swimwear line, fittingly named ‘Faffies’.
Capitalising on his stature and iconic South African flag speedo look, his new venture offers swimming briefs adorned with our colourful flag and Springbok emblem with the brand’s slogan being “size doesn’t matter”.
The pint-size scrumhalf is known for wearing an SA flag on his bum cheeks, particularly showing it off in the celebrations that followed SA’s Rugby World Cup wins in 2019 and 2023. He even pranced around in them while meeting Prince Harry, Roger Federer and Princess Charlene. He’s even worn them in advertisements for Budget Insurance, for whom he is an ambassador.
So yeah, this side hustle is a no-brainer.
On Youth Day, 16 June, Faf officially launched Faffies, which means anyone can now sport their own SA flag mens broekies by the pool or beach.

The swimwear brand currently only caters for men and young boys, offering several swimming briefs that are inclusive across a wide range of sizes, hence the cheeky catchphrase.

According to its Instagram account, the business’s online store will open next month.
The business must have jumped some hurdles since there is a rather strict protocol regarding the SA national flag, which was revisited during the DA’s controversial Burning Flag advertisement that aired last month, according to a government directive.
Accordingly, the flag must never be allowed to; touch the ground or floor; Be manufactured or used as underclothes, bath and floor mats or any similar demeaning application; Displayed or flown upside down; Be used for any commercial advertising in a manner that will distort or show disrespect to the flag.
Eish. Just make sure you wear your SA flag Faffies with dignity and respect or you’ll get Faf into major trouble.
