If there’s one thing we Saffas can always do, no matter the situation, is bring a giggle to the group chat.
As a nation chronically online, we’ve contributed to many a TikTok trend and sassy comment, but this election season saw a new trend that took the cake when it comes to South African digital humour.
Garnering millions of views, young South Africans have produced a tongue-in-cheek series of TikTok clips that take the p*ss out of the ANC’s historical door-to-door tactics for winning over voters.
This is not the first time we’ve chuckled over the ANC’s infamous “free T-shirts” for votes and manipulative home visits, but TikTok has added a visual element to local shenanigans that has taken our jokes to the next level.
What’s more is that tech-savvy TikTok users have even made a special sound for the visual meme, adding to the hilarity of critiquing the ANC’s footsoldiers.
Local social media legend Ntokozo Mahlinza created one of the best versions of the trend, inspiring many others to follow the format in different settings.

It’s giving Jehova’s Witness, the ANC edition.
Next up with the trend was verified TikTok-er Refiloe, known by us locals as ‘PinkPanther’.

Refiloe and her squad get ten out of ten from us for hide-and-seek excellence – plus five points for urgency.
Last, but certainly not least, award-winning content creator Linokuhle Khoza brought the drama with her contribution to the sh*t-stirring.

As always, we can rely on Saffas to bring humour to any situation.
The kids are alright. And are clearly not letting this month’s electioneering get in the way of a good time.
