Five lucky AF South Africans just became instant MULTI millionaires after winning big with the R131 million Powerball and R33 million Powerball Plus.
Three Saffas won a whopping R44,762,152.47 each from the R131 million Powerball draw while two won over R17 million from the Powerball Plus draw that took place on April 5, according to National Lottery Ithuba.
“This exceptional outcome highlights the inclusive spirit of the National Lottery, touching lives across the nation’s diverse spectrum,” said Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza.
The first Powerball jackpot winner is a woman who played the same numbers for eight years after initially selecting them through the Quick Pick method via the FNB banking app. Her winning ticket was R15.
“This win is a dream come true, enabling me to spend more time with my loved ones.”
The second Powerball jackpot winner is a 35-year-old male who plans to continue working despite being R44 million richer.
“My message to other people out there, is that if you don’t play you can’t win.”
The third Powerball winner spent R37.50 on his winning ticket and looks forward to contributing more to charity.
Then, one of the winners of the R17 million Powerball Plus jackpot is a “dedicated” general practitioner who will not quit his day job, either. Ithuba says he plans to renovate his house which he’s been yearning to do for a while now, and give some of his winnings to a church.
The other Powerball Plus winner reveals that he plays the Lotto every second week, and he selected his numbers through a Quick Pick method with an R7.50 wager. He says the most he has ever won before now is R70.
“I checked the draw results online and when I found out that I had the winning numbers, I could not sleep at all that night.”
At least you don’t have to pinch yourself awake from a dream, then.
The winning tickets were purchased through banking platforms such as FNB, Standard Bank, Absa, and the National Lottery’s e-commerce platform.
“This remarkable event not only changes the lives of the winners but also illustrates the diverse reach of the lottery, affirming its role in uniting and uplifting our nation.”
All winners over R50,000 receive free financial and trauma counselling. Players must be 18 years and older.
