A 22-year-old French woman’s blood-drained body was found in an abandoned church in northern Italy after she went looking for a haunted house believed to contain ghosts, according to police.
Police believe the victim could have been attempting to carry out a TikTok stunt, adding that her death could be related to a ghost-hunting competition being played in France on the social media platform.
Police are still investigating the circumstances around her death, but it may be fitting to quote Matthew 7:7 – ‘Seek and ye shall find’. The other working theory is that it was a “consented murder” or sacrifice, or an attempt to carry out a social media prank in the deconsecrated church.
Police are also searching for a young man who was believed to have been seen with her. This is the third missing person case in the area, with police believing it could be related.
A witness interviewed by police says the victim and a male friend had been seen in the area dressed “like vampires.” The young woman was pale and “emaciated” and the man had dark hair and olive skin. The witness told police investigators that she looked like a “walking corpse.”
Though it may be easy to think of ‘Nosferatu‘, the dead woman had been stabbed with what investigators say was a camping knife, and had bled to death. She also had two gunshots to her neck and one to her abdomen that police say may have been inflicted after she died. Some of the blood had also been scraped off the floor and removed from the crime scene prior to the body being found.
Local media reported that police are also investigating the presence of a burgundy-coloured van that was spotted on surveillance footage near the abandoned church last week.
Anne Rice fans should cool their jets as the tragedy doesn’t seem to be connected to anything supernatural, even though it sounds like the beginning of a vampire novel. This seems to be just another evil deed by mortal human beings.
