While the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are still around seven months away from launching, we’re starting to get a clearer picture of what Apple has been working on.
There are already many rumours about how the new devices will be upgraded, including impressive “exclusive AI features,” and the best battery life of the four 2024 iPhones.
A Korean leaker who goes by the name yeux1122 on Naver claims that the larger Pro will feature improved energy efficiency and the best battery life ever on an iPhone, per BGR. He also mentions features like exclusive on-device AI capabilities without saying what these might be or whether they’re exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The iPhone 16 Pro models are also supposed to feature 8GB of RAM, up to 2TB of storage, and an improved titanium frame manufacturing process, according to the leaker.
Size won’t be a concern as the leak says the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max should be about as big as their predecessors.
MacRumors recapped the new features and changes expected so far:
Bigger screens are on the horizon for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, as per Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants. He anticipates a boost to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively, in their display sizes. This upgrade also includes taller aspect ratios. Just to compare, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max currently sport 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively.
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are set to introduce an enhanced 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera lens, promising sharper, more detailed photos especially when capturing in 0.5× mode, according to Jeff Pu, a tech analyst at the Hong Kong-based investment firm Haitong International Securities.
Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple supply chain analyst, suggests that the iPhone 16 lineup will boast upgraded microphones with enhanced signal-to-noise ratios and better water resistance. These improvements aim to enhance voice clarity, potentially augmenting the accuracy of Siri’s speculated generative AI capabilities on iOS 18.
Then, the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s tetraprism Telephoto lens system with 5× optical zoom will expand to the regular iPhone 16 Pro, according to Kuo. There is also speculation of more cores for Neural Engine: Some of iOS 18’s rumoured generative AI features may be exclusive to iPhone 16 models, partly because the devices may feature an upgraded Neural Engine with “significantly” more cores.
The new iPhone should also come with an A18 Pro chip, improved thermal design, Wi-Fi 7 support, 5G Advanced connectivity and more if all these tell-tale signs are true.
We’re just going to have to wait and see and keep a finger on the Digicape pulse. Digicape is South Africa’s largest independent Apple retailer and will be sure to stock the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max when they hit stockists.
The retailer also offers a trade-in service, so if you want to swap your old new iPhone in for a brand-spanking new iPhone, at least you have options to make it affordable and doable.
