Increasing levels of uncertainty and the escalation of superpower contentions are raising concerns about the potential onset of another worldwide conflict.
Tensions between the Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe and America have been rising over the last couple of years, making people wonder if World War Three is about to break out.
Worried about the potential for a global conflict, folks are actively seeking out the safest destinations as a refuge from a prospective war.
Express UK shared a map showing the places that would provide the highest levels of security if the worst should happen and a global war erupts. Breathe a sigh of relief that South Africa is a great spot to wait out the potential next world war:
It reported that South Africa is a country worth considering “given its infrastructure, position and availability of wild game and fertile land”. Just ignore the blackouts and raging poverty, I guess.
Otherwise, there’s always the traditionally neutral country of Switzerland, which has a mountainous landscape and numerous nuclear shelters built deep into the Alps, “perfect for hiding out in the event of a global war”. Putin would know.
Then, the large island of Greenland in the North Atlantic could provide a good alternative as “the Danish territory is vast but underpopulated with only 56,000 inhabitants”. It’s giving lone wolf vibes – if that’s your thing.
Similarly, Iceland would be another possible location to wait out World War Three with “peaceful relations and an abundance of hot water springs and geothermal energy”. AKA volcanoes?
Moving down, Fiji is another contender. Sitting in the southwest of the Pacific Ocean some 2,700 miles away from its closest neighbour, Australia, it’s far enough away to not even be side-eyed by world powers.
Similarly New Zealand, despite being a Commonwealth member, is likely to pass under the radar of rival superpowers given the nation’s historic peaceful dealing with the rest of the world.
You could also just disappear on a whole continent, like Antarctica, which would be a handy place due to its massive size. The nearly abandoned region is unlikely to draw significant notice, given its sparse population. Additionally, the challenging landscape and climate would pose difficulties in maintaining anything beyond a basic lifestyle.
Those are your options if ever WWIII comes knocking. As for whether or not that will actually end up happening, you’re going to have to hear it from the experts.
