From 15 January, cyclists will have to fork out R1,000 to enter the upcoming Cape Town Cycle Tour. The race is set to once again take place on 10 March 2024, with the city expecting a massive influx of spandex from all over the country.
Some of these aerodynamically attired folks are however a bit miffed at the increase in entry fees, prompting the race’s director to issue an explanation.
Cape Town Cycle Tour Director, David Bellairs, has indicated that the price increase simply boils down to the cost of closing down 109 kilometres of roads in one of South Africa’s biggest cities.
“The entry fee currently doesn’t cover the cost of putting participants on the road.”
According to Bellairs, the increase will also help in raising money for the charities that benefit from the race.

Despite the all-round weirdness of cycling, the erstwhile Argus is truly one of the most beautiful and challenging amateur cycling races on the pedal calendar. Every year brings the crowds out along the route and it is a carnival atmosphere of note.
