A viral video of a man driving over the Bloukraans Pass from Western Cape to Eastern Cape has shown the stark difference between the roads run by different political parties in the country, nicely pitting the DA and the ANC against each other.
The Bloukrans Pass on the R102 road between Plettenberg Bay and Jeffreys Bay, which runs through the ravine of the Bloukrans River, is much loved by tourists and locals alike for its scenic views and lush nature. However, concerns have been raised over the condition of the road recently, which happens to separate the provinces of the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) governs the Western Cape province, which is the official opposition to South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC).
After extensive repairs, the pass has reopened on the Western Cape side, but the ANC-controlled Eastern Cape side is a whole other story, notes Cape Town ETC.
Check out the now-viral video posted by the owner of The Diesel Channel showing what it would be like to drive through this iconic pass in 2024:
Ja, hey – this is something to consider as we head into the 2024 elections.
Being exposed to the elements has left the Bloukraans Pass in disrepair with deteriorated infrastructure more often than not:

The road received an R110 million upgrade at Whisky Creek, which entailed asphalt resurfacing, slip failure repairs and a new culvert tunnel, per Arrive Alive.
Enjoy the Western Cape side, folks, and tread carefully on the Eastern Cape side.
