TikTok has a huge subgroup that features videos of some of the zaniest gastronomical trends one can imagine, but the latest fad to emerge out of China takes the cake.
Grilled ice is the new ‘cutting edge cuisine’, and content creators and influencers alike are raving about this new street food to emerge from the land of TikTok.
Different shapes and sizes of ice are grilled over charcoal and covered in different spices and sauces to create this delicacy, and if you’re waiting for the ‘skip to recipe’ button, there is none. It’s literally just ice with spice. Call it watered-down soup in a frozen form, or just plain stupid.
The thermodynamic properties of grilled ice aside, we just don’t see how this could even work. Do you eat your grilled ice hot, or wait for it to cool? And if it melts before you can sink your teeth into the frozen chilli cone, does it become a soup or a broth?
Why do this to us TikTok? Isn’t collecting our personal information enough?

Feel free to vigorously put palm to face now. You can always put some ice on it.
