After an unexpected early leak, Rockstar Games revealed the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series and we’re headed back to Vice City in 2025.
A now-suspended X account got the jump on the gaming franchise and released the clip less than a day before Rockstar was due to debut GTA VI‘s first trailer. Though the trailer was supposed to be released on Tuesday, Rockstar had little choice but to release the trailer in its entirety on its official YouTube account on Monday.
The teaser confirms numerous small details that have steadily emerged over the last two years as obsessed fans speculated and hacked. Vice City is once again the setting for the carnage, and the game also features its first female protagonist with Bonnie and Clyde-inspired story elements.
GTA VI will be released in 2025, and Rockstar confirmed this in a press release issued later that day, so all you wanna-be anarchists will have to wait a while.
Ten years in the making, GTA VI’s first trailer shows everything we’ve come to expect from the franchise – fast cars, reckless gunfights, handfuls full of stolen cash, and general hedonism all set against the backdrop of Vice City, a fictional version of Miami.
“Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.”
With an estimated production cost of $2 billion (R36 billion), GTA VI is set to be the most expensive game ever made, and it looks to be worth every cent.
