We simply had to sit down for a little video call chat with the two Milky Chance bandmates and pick their brains about all things music and South Africa before they head over here for their long-awaited ‘Living In A Haze’ tour in February 2024.
Yes, there was mention of braais and blackouts.
Milky Chance, AKA the German indie-pop duo consisting of childhood friends Clemens Rehbein and Philipp Dausch, have been to South Africa before – in 2015, for the Vodacom In The City event and Rocking The Daisies – and are gracing our stages once again this year.
The dudes rose to fame with their breakout folk/electronic hit Stolen Dance which reached #1 on the charts, was certified platinum in multiple countries, and became one of the most Shazamed songs of all time.
Now, they’re sharing their latest album, ‘Living In A Haze’ – released in June 2023 on their own Muggelig Records, it has already delivered over 500 million streams from three global hits – ‘Colorado,’ ‘Synchronize’ + ‘Living In A Haze’.
Milky Chance will be ‘disco boys’ in Cape Town on 15 February 2024, and then in Johannesburg on the 17th, moving on to Durban on the 18th. Breakout Events are the cool dudes behind their epic SA tour addition – Danke! – and tickets are available from their website. You can also find out more over here.
Canadian duo Neon Dreams and Sean Koch, one of SA’s most-loved indie-folk artists, will be joining in on the fun as support acts. Both will be there for the Cape Town (15 February) and Johannesburg (17 February) shows, while Neon Dreams will also be joining Milky Chance in Durban (18 February) as a support act.
To get us all excited for the tour, and to get to know the faces behind the music magic, we had a quick chat with Clemens and Philipp while they were in Vienna last year. We spoke about what they do daily – did you know they have kids!? – what music they enjoy listening to – catch the SA namedrops! – and what they think about South Africa – only good things, promise.
They’re incredibly excited to be coming back and sharing the viaaaabe with us – have a watch:
Oh, before you go, Breakout Events will be giving away TWO FREE TICKETS for the Cape Town show (only – sorry Jozi and Durbs).
