Everyone was aghast when Trevor Noah was offered R33 million for an advert to promote South Africa as a tourist destination, and it looks like our boy Siya Kolisi did something just as similar for free.
The video of the Springbok captain promoting SA has been pitted against Trevor’s ad as locals discuss who is the better SA ambassador, SAPeople reported.
Hailing from Zwide, a Township in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape province, Siya has captured the hearts of South Africans and the world as captain of the South African rugby team, the Springboks.
Siya Kolisi is without a doubt the country’s golden boy, leading the SA’s team to victory in the 2019 RWC and again this year — securing himself a solid spot in all our hearts.
So we’re all listening when he says South Africa is worth a visit:
Turns out, our @Springboks Captain @SiyaKolisi is currently in USA, and is inviting all Americans to #visitsouthafrica to come experience #Ubuntu, natural beauty, wildlife, our food and of course our sunny weather. Danko my Captain.🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

Commentators instantly brought up Trevor’s alleged R33 million deal:
“Wow Siya he’s giving @Trevornoah a run for who can describe our country the best. I love it,” wrote media personality Penny Lebyane while another social media user said:
“So bad we paid Trevor for nothing 🤷♂️, I mean if Siya could do it without expecting anything from government in return why was Trevor compensated for this?”
Except, in July, South African Tourism revealed that Kolisi would be the marketing entity’s new global brand advocate:
“With the Rugby World Cup starting in September in France, and as the Springboks prepare for the upcoming tournament, Siya is the perfect person to partner with South African Tourism in our marketing and promotional efforts as we seek to attract more travellers to come to visit our country. He is an exceptional South African whose story and journey inspire people from various parts of the globe. He is a true South African icon,” says Acting Chief Executive Officer at South African Tourism, Nomasonto Ndlovu.
The year-long collaboration will see Siya represent the country in different capacities as SAT aims to re-position South Africa locally and in our key source markets internationally. It was not mentioned if he is being financially compensated for this role.
Frankly, after the spate of muggings and car window smashings happening to tourists, we need Siya and Trevor working together to make SA a pretty place to visit anyway.
