An Aussie sheep named Sugar who went missing five years ago was found living with a pack of Kangaroos in Sugarloaf Reservoir, a reservoir about 32 kilometres from Melbourne.

Forever Friends Animal Rescue (FFAR),  a volunteer-run charity dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of vulnerable animals, found the errant sheep amongst the kangaroos and helped get him back to his flock.

Sugar was brought to the charity’s Gladysdale Sanctuary, where he “received a long overdue makeover and check up to ensure he’s doing okay.” Sugar has let himself go quite a bit in the time he spent with the ‘roos, and shearers took off 12.6 kilograms of wool from the roaming chop.

According to the company, the rescue was executed thanks to a combined effort between FFAR, and Vets For Compassion who first located the missing creature with the kangaroos.

“In the catchments surrounding our city’s reservoirs, wildlife is abundant and diverse, especially on the walking tracks,” the post read. “Keep an eye out for wedge-tailed eagles, black-tailed wallabies, echidnas, kangaroos, and an abundance of other wildlife. But Melbourne Water staff were surprised to learn about lost Sugar, far from home.”

Now this is a very sweet story, but we wonder if anyone thought of the possibility that Sugar liked living among the kangaroos. Perhaps he grew tired of all the bleating one day and decided to move in with the buff dudes in the ‘roo pack. Maybe he even had a kangaroo girlfriend and was well-respected in the pack.

Now he’s back among the sheep and his dreadlocks have been chopped. Poor Sugar.
