We’re sure our readers from other parts of SA are tired of hearing this, but Cape Town has clinched yet another top award at the 2023 World Travel Awards.
The Mother City has managed to clinch 8 awards at the World Travel Awards Africa held in Dubai. This is the third year in a row that Cape Town secured top spots.
The city seems to be on a roll, Condé Nast Traveller announced in their 2023 Reader’s Choice Awards that Cape Town was voted the fourth-best large city in the world and in July, after readers of The Telegraph newspaper in Britain nominated Cape Town as the best city in the world.
The man at the helm of this wonderful place we call home, mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, said “We are proud to receive continued recognition in these prestigious awards, confirming Cape Town as a leading tourism destination on the continent. The variety of experiences available to local and international visitors makes us a unique destination for travel and leisure.”
“The tourism industry continues to breathe life into our regional economy and global recognition only increases the numbers of tourists wanting to visit our City, creating more employment opportunities and boosting the local economy.”
Right on Geordin.
Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, the City’s Destination Marketing Organisation (DMO) said “We are thrilled to receive another global award, the ultimate global standard accolade for our exceptional travel excellence. This honour is a testament to Cape Town’s exceptional allure and unwavering commitment to providing an unforgettable travel experience.”
Taking a proactive approach to tourism and not sitting back to wait for the tourists to come has now pushed Cape Town’s tourist number beyond pre-COVID days. The ‘Choose Cape Town’ campaign is sending a clear message to the world: “Come to Cape Town, dis lekker hier.”
