Since the Boks defeated the French Les Bleus 29-28 in the nailbiting game on Sunday, knocking the host team out of the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals, they’ll be getting ready to slaughter again in the semi-final clash against England on Saturday, October 21.
While Siya Kolisi coaches his team to bag the big win (wink wink, nudge nudge), fans can get ready to support and cheer them on in true Saffa style – AKA, with a dop in hand.
Our reasoning is, why not make those drinks the colour green to show the ultimate support? Let’s go beyond the little springbokkie shots, with their sweet crème de menthe and Amarula, to show the Bokke just how much we care.
With these green cocktails, the colour will be prideful, while the flavour will satisfy by being either fruity, minty or an herbal blend, depending on the recipe.
One of the easiest ways to create a ‘Go Bokke’ cocktail is to use green-coloured liquors, like sour apple schnapps or the more intense absinthe, per The Spruce Eats.
Midori Melon Liqueur is the most popular melon-flavoured green liqueur, while Sour Apple Schnapps are fun but typically very sour and sweet. Check out this Apple Martini recipe, for example. Otherwise, you can also try adding some absinthe. Known as “the green fairy,” absinthe’s anise has a strong taste and a vibrant colour. For the greenest absinthe drinks, try the absinthe cocktail or obituary cocktail.
In fact, there are other options to create emerald-coloured drinks than just using green liquors as the primary ingredient.
This next approach goes back to one of the first lessons in art class: if you mix yellow and blue, you get green. This works well enough in drinks, like if you mix up a vodka cocktail with pineapple juice and just a drop of blue curaçao. Serve this green mix on the rocks and top it off with a splash of clear soda for a quick drink.

Local is always lekker, so we have to mention Fitch & Leedes here. The superb range of authentic mixers is made with quadruple filtered water for ultimate purity to meet the highest standards in terms of quality and taste. Delicately carbonated, superbly balanced and infused with the world’s finest flavours, Fitch & Leedes takes you back to an era when things were still made with the utmost care and craftsmanship. Embrace that Kolisi class by using Fitch & Leedes mixers in your cocktails.
Then, fresh ingredients are an excellent option for creating green drinks, too. They may not create the same vivid green that the spirits do, but the effect is there and so is the fresh taste.
Try a mojito with extra mint and Fitch & Leedes Lemonade to ensure that green ‘Go Bokke’ support is intact:

For other fresh green cocktails using natural ingredients, you can also try a frozen lime margarita, a kiwi martini, a green juice bloody Mary or an avocado margarita.
If you’re not feeling so op it, you can also just add some green food colouring to your beer. It’s all about the Sprinkboks at the end of the day, we won’t judge you.
Goooo Bokke!
