Meta’s latest AI project is truly strange.
We were promised flying cars and teleportation for the future, but all we’ve been given is another chatbot experience. To make it even more disappointing, they can barely hold a decent conversation akin to your single worst interaction at a work party.
At Meta Connect last month, Mark Zuckerberg announced the platform’s new AI Personas, which are chatbots with a twist; they’re modelled on some of your favourite celebs. The chatbots’ celebrity likenesses range from Tom Brady to Snoop Dogg, to Kendall Jenner and Charli D’Amelio.
You might be thinking that you can have a little tongue-wag with AI versions of celebrities now. But that’s where you’re wrong, states Mashable.
Meta dished out millions of dollars to these famous folks to use their likenesses, but the Personas have nothing to do with the celebrities’ actual characters. Jenner, for instance, is actually Billie, an older sister type designed to give younger people life advice. This is either going to be boring or dodgy, take your pick:

Meta’s AI chatbot Personas include;
The non-celebrity AI chatbots that you can converse with include Brian, a “warm-hearted grandpa”; Becca, a “devoted dog mom”; Bob the robot, a “sarcastic robot”, and Alvin the Alien, a “quirky alien” among others.
According to LifeHacker Meta’s chatbots should be live across its apps:
To start, fire up Instagram, Messenger, or WhatsApp, then start a new chat. Rather than picking one of your contacts however, choose “AI Chat.” Tap “Continue” on the pop-up, and you’ll be greeted by a “Chat with an AI” window. Here, you can choose from the entire cast of AI characters to chat with, including Meta’s AI assistant.
Don’t get your hopes up. Apparently, it’s more like DMing an amateur screenwriter than chatting to the actual celebs or even the celebs as they play a character. Plus, AI is prone to making stuff up, so don’t rely too much on their advice.
You can also use Meta AI assistant in a similar fashion to ChatGPT, including as an AI image generator, but it doesn’t seem to be very creative or skilled.
Dystopia is not so far off:

Also, before you pour your heart out to Billie, “your ride-or-die older sister”, or that AI grandpa named Brian on Instagram, know that your messages might not be private or end-to-end encrypted.
