There are easier ways to prove that you’re a legend. Some folks do triathlons while others climb K2, but 25-year-old Jon May from the UK is going hard on the pints in his quest to become legen…dary.
May challenged himself to drink 2,000 pints in 200 days, and he’s gained thousands of loyal followers on TikTok as a result.
Brits are famed for their ability to put away the pints, and as Europe’s heaviest drinkers, they consume the equivalent of 400 pints per person in a year, so this boozy challenge doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch. But 2,000 pints in 200 days is a tall, frosty order.
May first came up with the idea when he saw someone on social media declaring that they could drink 1,000 pints in one year. “I can double that”, he thought. “I started off with 2,000 pints a year,” he told VICE, “but then I went too quickly, so I shortened it to 200 days because it sounds good.”
To achieve this alcoholic dream, he will have to consume ten pints a day, every day, without a break. That’s a hell of a lot of boozy December holidays back-to-back.
“On the one hand, you’re essentially killing your liver, and on the other you’re doing something mildly impressive.”
May is keeping an ‘official record’ of his drinking and most days he live-streams his pint-a-thon directly from the pub to prove he’s not skipping pint-day. The endeavour has garnered some attention and his TikTok account has amassed 80,000 followers and millions of views.
Naturally, this kind of suiping will leave you a bit frayed at work, so he has now made TikTok his full-time job and can focus on growing himself full-time. When asked about the obvious babbelas, he simply remarks “I’m too young for hangovers, and you can’t get hungover unless you’re sober anyway.”
His TikTok fame also doesn’t come cheap, and he admits to having spent £6,000 (R138,000) on beer and predicts he’ll have reached £8,000 (R180,000) by the end of his challenge later this month.
Despite the cost to his pocket and health, he says that to some folk he has become a hero. “I was at a wedding the other day and some random guy started kissing my shoes.” He is also getting stopped for selfies at his local pub, which is likely too happy to see him.

Though May might be a hero to some, people online have been rather critical of his mission, and his comment section is flooded with negative remarks. “If you look at a video with 1.3 million views, I’d say about 75 percent of those comments are hate,” he says. “It used to get to me, but now I’ve realised they’re just jealous they can’t drink pints as well as I can.”
It goes without saying that there are some health issues that come with drinking ten pints a day, every day, but May says that his “liver doesn’t currently hurt”, so he’s pushing on. “Once I’m finished, I will go to the doctor and have a scan,” he says.
He’s going to need more than just a scan as this type of binge drinking harms your brain and can cause liver diseases and heart problems. We won’t even mention his mental health.
Asked what he’ll do when the pints run out, May says “I reckon I’ll give it two weeks, then I think I’ll go on to reviewing pints.”
