If ya’ll thought toppings like pineapple and pickles on pizza were divisive, you’ll be surprised to hear that avo has recently been added to the list of ‘weird’ ingredients – especially aimed at us South Africans and our obsession for the green fruit on pizza.

Famous UK TikTok star ‘Big Tobz’ has gone viral for his critique of Saffa-style pizzas, particularly that we love a hunk of avocado adorning every slice in the box.

While Big Tobz seemed completely shocked by his discovery after ordering take-out in SA, many of the TikTok users in the comments are challenging the notion that we’re ‘crazy’ for this topping choice.

One user asked, “Wait, who DOESN’T put avo on pizza??”

Big Tobz’s critique seemed to be that we are “trying to be healthy and fat at the same time”. So what if we are?

After the initial divisive clip went viral, South Africans in the comments told Big Tobz, “You’ve got to leave a review of it now… This is normal to us”.

But we get it – Avo is after all a fruit (actually single-seeded berries), so it’s bound to get some of the shade thrown pineapple’s way.

I ALWAYS order the Funky Fabb (feta, avo, bacon and Butleritos) from Butler’s. That combo just hits different.

The UK content creator didn’t disappoint, and safe to say, we Saffas were satisfied with Big Tobz’s vindicating reaction video to the avo topping.

Big Tobz “finished the whole box” and one commenter typed the words we were all thinking: “You’re welcome. Stick with us, kid”.

It’s true, no one does it quite like South Africa.

We’ve even got the receipts to prove it – Butler’s was voted Cape Town’s best pizza joint for consecutive years in a row, and has been delivering ‘za to hungry locals since 1989.

Even if you’re one of the few South Africans who can’t stomach avocado with pizza, Butler’s has so many great options that it won’t matter.

The verdict? Avo on pizza “SLAPS”. But we knew that already.
