Chart-topping Canadian rapper Drake made it ‘rain’ for a lucky fan this week at one of his concerts in Las Vegas.
As Drake performed in the vibrant city over last weekend, he couldn’t help but notice a devoted fan in the crowd holding up a giant sign that read: “I spent my furniture money on your two shows, OVO for life.”
Touched by this fan’s dedication, Drake didn’t hesitate to give a shout-out to the guy. And also a fat stack of dollah dollah bills. $50 000 to be exact, which amounts to just under R1 million. You could buy some really nice furniture with that.
In a video captured by an audience member, the rapper addressed the crowd and hyped up the fan’s sign (as well as the choice to spend ‘furniture money’ on tickets).
“You know what, my man, your furniture money. Imma give you 50 bands ’cause I love you. Make sure he gets his money tonight. That’s some real shit, I f*ck with you.”
Drake’s act of philanthropy didn’t stop there and he used the opportunity to share a valuable life lesson with his audience, pointing out that each homie is going through their own personal kak.
“Listen, this is what life is about. I’m trying to teach you something tonight. You never know what the next person is going through. You never know what the person in front of you, to the left of you, to the right of you, behind you, is going through.”

This isn’t the first time Drake has shown generosity via his deep pockets to fans. During a show at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, the rapper surprised someone in the front row with a pink Hermes Birkin bag worth $35 000 (R675 000), a highly sought-after luxury item.
Even the music video for one of Drake’s top tracks, ‘God’s Plan’ shows the musician dishing out cold hard moolah to strangers, lighting up their faces with green $$$ signs.
While I’m not sure that handing out wads of money to fans will solve long-term financial struggles, it’s always good to see celebs walking the talk, and in the case of Drake, literally putting their money where their mouth is.
You may find me hanging around outside the next Drake event looking for a donation of ‘furniture money’.
