While shopping for a new multi-hulled yacht the other day, we came upon something rather special very close to our neighbourhood, yet so far beyond our reach.
Nestled in the bosom of the Franschhoek Valley, the magnificent Manor house, with its beautiful 2 bedroom villa, olive grove and sprawling vineyards, immediately made us decide to spend our money on something besides the new Ralph Wuttke 150 Yacht with fold-out garage.
Set on two hectares, the homestead is privately set in a park-like garden with the most incredible mountain and valley views. This is as posh as it gets, and it’s for sale. Unfortunately, the price tag on this heavenly piece of real estate would require you to win the Powerball twice, at least. But the rates are surprisingly reasonable for a R95 million property.
Despite the price of living larger than life on this estate, it’s fairly reasonable compared to property in the ‘uppity’ neighbourhoods of New York or London. If $5 million in New York only gets you a 4-bedroom townhouse on Fifth Avenue, I say screw the Big Apple and rather buy 20 000 square metres of heaven in Franschhoek.
The estate is advertised on Private Property, but where it really caught our eye was in a feature on Robbreport, which makes the odds of this place getting snapped up by a tech billionaire very likely.
The main house with its oversized beams and entrance doors is impressive in scale with incredible volume in all the living rooms. The bedrooms are luxurious to say the least, and the living rooms all have a sense of grandeur, yet still create a casual living feeling. It’s all just so damn pretty.
All the living areas have large fireplaces and look out onto the manicured garden which is filled with trees, rolling lawns and incredible views and pathways.
There’s also a productive olive orchard and Merlot vineyard that produces approximately 4000 bottles of wine.Besides the usual Manor house stuff, the property has a conservatory, three swimming pools, staff quarters, tennis courts, and garage space for seven cars. And of course the views. Especially over your vineyard.
Did we mention that it produces 4000 bottles of nectar? It’s worth repeating.
If living like Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus is not your thing, you can always buy this nice kitchenette on the Upper East Side in New York for R95 million, with luxury trimmings as below.
Did we tell you that the Franschhoek homestead comes with a vineyard that produces 4000 bottles of wine? Serious buyers only.[source:robbreport/privateproperty]
