Actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore, 48, had a scary ‘fan encounter’ at a speaking engagement in Manhattan on Monday evening when a ranting stalker came rushing at the stage.
Barrymore was chatting with event host and Sex Lives of College Girls star Reneé Rapp when a nutter who identified himself as Chad Micheal Busto (now that’s a stalker name) called out the actress’ name while he came storming to the stage.
Barrymore still gave an “Oh my God, yes — hi,” before obviously noting it wasn’t just a fan with an insightful question. Busto began yelling at the lady: “You know who I am. I need to see you at some point while you’re in New York.”
Everything about the guy obviously screamed out ‘stranger danger’ so bodyguards immediately did a Kevin Costner and stepped in while Rapp led Barrymore off the stage.
Once the danger was over, Barrymore returned to the stage amid huge applause. Rapp summed up the moment afterward in Millenial speak: “By the way, just to be clear, like the second they were like, ‘Ok, we’re good,’ I was like, ‘Hey, do you need anything, do you need to sit?’ She was like, ‘Oh, no, I got it — I’m good.’”
Like, it’s commendable of the young Rapp to immediately, like, usher Barrymore off the stage.
Barrymore agreed, and said, “Well, I have a new definition of your sexiness — it’s the protectiveness that went full ‘Bodyguard’!”
As it turns out, Barrymore probably had good reason to be wary of the Busto dude as he has a record of being a stalker and pervert. Police reports for Chad Michael Busto show offences for criminal trespass, resisting arrest, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, theft, and harassment in several US states, dating back as far as 1999.
The video made its way to TikTok shortly after the event, with fans praising both Barrymore and Rapp for their bravery in the face of danger, with one saying “Drew is so amazing I can only imagine how scary that actually was.”
Thankfully everyone was fine, and the Busto creep got arrested. Check it out:
