There has been a disturbing increase in fans throwing objects at performers this year, and despite Adele threatening attendees with a merc-gun, the latest, and perhaps the stupidest trend of the year, doesn’t seem to be over.
The latest performer to be pelted with something is Cardi B. A fan thought it funny to toss their drink at the star as she was performing in Las Vegas this weekend, but they may have confused her with Adele, and instead of getting free merch, they got a microphone hurled right back at them.
Good for Cardi B.
In a now-viral video of the incident, Cardi can be seen looking surprised when the drink is thrown in her direction while she performed her hit “Bodak Yellow.” When the moment of shock passed, Cardi let loose at the front-row fan, and soon afterward security can be seen escorting them away.
After the incident, the rapper retweeted a different video angle of the microphone throw, which shows a clearer view of the fan attempting to empty their cup at Cardi, who reportedly continued her performance after the mic toss.
It’s all so unnecessary, and not only because it’s incredibly hard to get drinks at a live gig.
Earlier this month Harry Styles also had to duck for cover as a fan hit him in the face with an object. Along with Styles, Cardi B now also joins a growing list of stars that have been coming under fire, including Bebe Rexha, Drake, Kelsea Ballerini, Steve Lacy, Kid Cudi, and Pink.
There seems to be no specific reason for the ‘attacks’ and looking at the ‘hitlist’, fans seem to be targeting people of all genders, races, and genres. Maybe they should follow the example of metalheads, and just throw people around.
Artists are bemoaning the death of ‘show etiquette’ as these incidents are becoming a real threat to them. Or as Adele puts it: “Have you noticed how people are forgetting f—ing show etiquette at the moment? I f***ing dare you — I dare you to throw something at me. I’ll f***ing kill you.”
