There are many Premier League footballers that are about to enter the final year of their contracts. Some may be holding out for one final lucrative wage packet, while others have fallen out of favour at their clubs. Many players could be available on free transfers next season. Or their clubs could attempt to recoup a fee before their deals expire.
There could either be huge deals on the horizon this summer, or top-quality stars could see out their final year at their respective clubs. How will two of the EPL’s finest, in Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford, fare in the upcoming transfer window?
Harry Kane could be set to finally leave Tottenham Hotspur. The England captain has spearheaded his club’s ambitions for several years and also enjoyed a spectacular 2022-2023 campaign, but sadly, it still wasn’t enough to earn European qualification for Spurs. In the outright Premier League betting odds, they are offered at a price of 11/10 to finish in the top six next season.
European football isn’t necessarily expected to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and it may be time for Kane to look to fulfil his ambitions elsewhere. The Englishman has previously been linked with a domestic move to Manchester United, as well as a more spectacular switch to Real Madrid.
If Kane were to move to either club, it would certainly aid his chances of finally winning silverware and building a more significant legacy in the sport. He’s already a legend at Spurs, now it’s time for him to spread his wings and achieve major honours so that he’ll stand a chance of being remembered by all of the footballing world when he retires.
Marcus Rashford was Manchester United’s talisman during the past season: he enjoyed an impressive campaign with 29 goals scored. Rashford’s contract was initially set to run out this year, but United activated a one-year extension, which means he will remain until 2024 at least.
There’s still work to do for the Red Devils if they want to ensure that Rashford’s future is at Old Trafford. His stocks are high at present, and if he became available for a free next year then many clubs would surely be circling.
There’s an expectation that Rashford will agree to fresh terms with United, especially now that Erik ten Hag has them on a gradual upturn. They won the Carabao Cup in February, and more trophies will likely arrive under the Dutch coach over the next few years.
Two of England’s top performers have big decisions to make. In Kane’s case, finally departing Spurs looks like a strong possibility with the lack of stability at the club in recent times. For Rashford, a move looks like a small possibility – his club has shown signs of returning to the glory days of its past.
It’s important that England’s leading stars are winning trophies at the club level. This can strengthen their overall legacies in the game, as well as build winning mentalities that could help at the national team level. Kane and Rashford’s contractual decisions in the near future could have implications on England’s upcoming major tournament chances.
