The Advertising Regulatory Board (ARB) has hit out at Takelot for advertising a bracelet with the words ‘‘Best Fu****g B****es’ engraved on the inside.
If you’re wondering what the redacted words are, it’s likely referring to female dogs being very good friends, but since the text has been deemed highly offensive, we won’t be spelling it out for you. Not today.
The complaint was laid by consumer Kevin Harris, who felt that the inscription on the Rose Gold Inspirational Quote Female Bangle, which sells for R400, was offensive. In response to the complaint, the ARB investigated and found that yes, the ‘Fu****g B****es’ merchandise was derogatory against women.
“The website is not age restricted, which means children can also view this offensive advert”.
The ARB also noted that during the course of its investigation, it appeared that the advertisement has been removed from the Takealot website.
“This is possibly in response to the complaint, and in circumstances where the advertiser advises the ARB that it has withdrawn the advertisement and will not be using it again, the ARB can close the file without the need to make a decision.”
The board explained further that the sale of the item was not a problem, but the words were clearly visible in the advert, and although tolerance for swearing is a personal measure, these specific words were generally regarded by advertisers across the world as a no-no.
Don’t read below if you’re easily offended…
We agree with this one as very few women appreciate being called that, even if it’s a supposed ‘inspirational quote’.Especially if it’s written on an R400 gold bracelet. What kind of f****** gold sells for R400 rand?
