Social media has been abuzz with news that Sweden has become the first country to make sex a sport, even going as far as establishing the Swedish Sex Federation, which will apparently be overseeing the European Sex Championship scheduled to take place on June 8.
And just like that, pornstars could now be considered pro athletes. Well, maybe not just yet as it turned out that this was a hoax.
Sigh.
We all know that a good romp is great exercise, but can sex really become a sport? Well, according to some reports, the Swedes thought this one through.
The European Sex Championship was reported to bring together ‘athletes’ from all over Europe to compete in 16 different disciplines to show their talents. These included seduction, body massages, exploring erotic zones, prelude, oral sex, penetration, endurance, physical appearance, pose execution, creativity in position changes, and the number of orgasms within a given time.
Sounds exhausting, but that’s why pro athletes make so much money. It’s also not all about the deed, and contestants were reported to be judged on artistic performance, pose transitions, and the capacity to raise blood pressure and heart rate during the competition.
“Additional categories consist of the most exquisite and difficult position, the most creative communication as determined by a panel and spectators, the pair who exhibit the most activity, artistry in the Kamasutra, and popularity among the judges and viewers.”
The ‘president of the Swedish Federation of Sex’, said he hoped that sex would eventually be acknowledged as a sport worldwide.
“Just like any other sport, achieving desired results in sex requires training. Therefore, it is only logical for people to start competing in this domain as well.”
If this had been true, ESPN would have jumped on it already, as this could have been a bigger media extravaganza than the soccer world cup. But alas, Anna Setzman, spokesperson for the Swedish Sports Confederation dampened our excitement.
“Right now, false information is being spread in some international media about Sweden and Swedish sports. These are vigorously denied.”
Despite it being a hoax, we wonder if they would have had a prize for coming in second.
