Black Wolf is a new app that works a lot like Uber but comes with the option of a bulletproof SUV and a gun-wielding driver. This sounds like something we need for South African roads, although, most of our taxis’ drivers are most likely already packing heat.
Black Wolf, run by entrepreneur Kerry King Brown, has been in the VIP protection business for a long time, but now the service is being modelled on an app similar to Uber.
This latest offering to ‘crime hysteria’ creates the impression that everyday commutes are like ‘gas-runs’ in a Mad Max-style wasteland, but the Black Wolf founder is in no hurry to dispel the image.
Insisting that it is the ‘average’ person that suffers the most from violent crime, Brown claims Black Wolf makes ‘celebrity protection’ available for the ordinary guy who just wants a safe journey to work.
“What I’m creating is a necessary evil. It’s a necessity.”
The service pitches itself to executive types who might need bodyguard protection, and also to “women, school kids, and regular people who want peace of mind in this crazy world.”
The app even offers a school shuttle service, which is a ‘door-to-door solution for parents juggling work and family.’ Obviously, the service is one of those that feeds off everyone’s fear for their families, but in the US with bullets flying everywhere all the time, can we really blame them for cashing in on the paranoia?

Whether this service will be effective in SA is another story, but for now, the service is just being offered in the US city of Atlanta, Georgia.
We are sure this will be a hit among image-obsessed influencers who would love nothing better than to be accompanied by armed protection.
Nothing says ‘I’m important’ like having a suited guy with a gun standing beside you as you selfie yourself.
